WHO AM I?
My name is Naomi Rubie, and I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of children from hard places (trauma kids). Having spent eight transformative years in Ethiopia with my family working closely with children suffering from trauma, I returned to Australia in 2020 and was struck by the number of students here in Australia also from or in hard places, and was concerned as I saw teachers and schools struggling to help them in appropriate ways.
In 2022 I completed a Masters of Education with a focus in Leadership and Diverse Learning, and in 2023 in order to delve deeper into the field of trauma-informed care and explore innovative approaches that could facilitate healing and growth, I started the journey of becoming a Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) practitioner, through Texas Christian University. All this has provided me with the necessary background to help schools problem solve and implement effective strategies to support children impacted by trauma in classrooms.
TBRI - Trust Based Relational Intervention
TBRI - Trust Based Relational Intervention
TBRI is a trauma-informed intervention that emphasizes the importance of building strong, nurturing relationships with children. It focuses on the core principles of Connecting, Empowering, and Correcting to ensure holistic healing and growth.
“It is not a curriculum but a blueprint for interactions with others for healing, but especially those who have experienced developmental trauma. It’s not about books, but people and relationships and yet it can be taught, involves skills and techniques which can be improved over time with practice. It is applicable for families’, schools and societies in general.” Daren Jones

It is my dream to be a change agent in educational organisations specifically, but also families, as I take leaders, teachers, parents and caregivers on a journey of implementing TBRI principles that I know can bring healing to children from or in hard places.
Together, let us embrace the power of connection, empower those in need, and correct the misconceptions surrounding trauma, ultimately shaping a brighter future for all children.
